JORHAT, Oct 12: Jorhat has scored a hat trick of sorts with former Dean of College of Agriculture, Assam Agricultural University and present academic registrar of Assam Women’s University, Dr LK Hazarika being elected to the Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society London (FRES), (2019).
This follows close on the heels of Dr Somnath Roy, scientist, Tocklai Tea Research Institute here being elected to the Royal Entomological Society London (FRES) this year and a senior scientist of North East Institute of Science and Technology, Dr Mantu Bhuyan, who had also achieved this distinction in 2018.
Apart from the FRES Dr Hazarika has been selected for two more awards that of Applied Zoologists Research Association (AZRA), Bhubaneswar Honourary Fellowship Award, 2019; and Dr. BV David Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award 2019 for outstanding contribution to agriculture and allied science.
The Assam Women’s University on Saturday felicitated him on all his achievements. The FRES is one of the most prestigious fellowships awarded by the Royal Entomological Society, UK to outstanding scholars in the field of entomology in recognition to one’s contributions towards advancement of entomology by way of teaching, research and innovation and extension. Many pioneering scientists like Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace, fathers of theory of evolution, were also given this award.
The AZRA Fellowship is also one of the topmost awards given to a scientist by the association located at Bhubaneswr, Odisha.
Dr Hazarika said that this would be awarded to him during an international conference organized by AZRA and University of Agricultural Sciences at Raichur, Karnataka collaboratively on February 12-14, 2020. The David Foundation award would also be given on November 17, 2019 at Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Honourable Vice Chancellor of AWU.
Dr Malinee Goswami, vice chancellor, Assam Women’s University, graced the meeting organised by the teachers of the university to felicitate Dr. Hazarika, in which Registrar Orpha Baglary also actively participated.
