Kokrajhar, Aug 5: A torch light procession was taken out by All BTC Minority Students Union (ABSU) at Salakati in Kokrajhar on Saturday in protest against the killing of its president Lafikul Islam Ahmed, where several hundred activists of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) and All Koch Rajbongshi Students Union (AKRSU), Bengali Federation, Santhali Student’s Union took part.
The rally began from Salakati and ended at Railway Gate.
The protestors also demanded the arrest of the prime accused and handing over the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
On the other hand, former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta accompanied by a eight-member delegation of Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) visited Salakati. The delegation comprised of former MP Kumar Dipak Das, MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita and Nurul Hussain.
Krishak Mukti Sangram Samity (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi who also visited Salakati on Saturday said that Lafikul was killed out of an internecine rift within the leaders of ruling BJP. “It is a political killing. There is a big political conspiracy behind it,” Gogoi told reporters here.
Gogoi also questioned why the government could not suspend Kokrajhar SP Rajen Singh even after four days of the killing. “Rajen Singh is having close relationship with powerful Himanta. How can chief minister Sarbananda sonowal take action against him?,” Gogoi questioned.
Kokrajhar MP Naba Kumar Sarania also visited Salakati demanded a CBI probe into the killing.
Meanwhile, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary offered job to Lafikul’s younger brother and Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia to the family.
