Traditional sports mark day 3 of KYF at Taralangso

TARALANGSO, Feb 17: Traditional sports and games like Hambi Kepathu- Ghela khel marked the third day of the 44th Karbi Youth Festival (KYF) at Karbi People’s Hall (KPH) here on Saturday.

During the day fewer visitors were seen, but after 5 pm there was a rush of people and the half completed two lane road from DIG Bungalow to Taralangso was crowded with all types of vehicles.

The Karbi Peoples Hall is expected to be visited by more than 5 lakh people in the five-day-long extravaganza organised by Karbi Cultural Society (KCS). Beside conventional events of various tribes, contemporary contests like beauty pageant, boogie competition for both kids and grown-up have been lined up.

In the morning, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) EM Jagatsing Engti inaugurated the completions on traditional sports, where 18 teams from different zones participated.

At Hemphu Mukrang Achetai also called KCS field, the Kengdongdang pen kekat-running with bamboo stilts for men was conducted. Later, Bangphi soktok chingdi- synchronised paddy pouncing by four girls was conducted.

At Singmirjeng open stage Ritnong chingdi- cultivation dance was performed. Traditional yarn spinning with spinnerets for women and extempore speech was organised at Longbi Chidu stage. Drawing competition for children was conducted at Longmirjeng. In the evening, at the same stage the Banjar kekan was held.

At Longbi Chidu Oso kebai- cradle song and dead lift competition was held. Rongkim alun-song of establishing a village at Semson Sing Ingti open stage and modern group song competition at Long Mirjeng were held.

In the exhibition ground, the stall of Northeast Frontier drew crowd. For the first time NF Railway is taking part at the departmental exhibition complex at the 44th KYF here.

Altogether 30 departments under Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) have put-up their exhibitions at departmental exhibition complex. Other agencies, college and the students of Assam University, Diphu Campus have also put-up exhibitions.

Senior section engineer Kalyan Das, who came from Dimapur to assist in putting up of the exhibition stall said, “This is for the first time we to put-up our stall at departmental exhibition complex. The stall was put-up as per request by Karbi Anglong deputy commissioner to let know people about the activities and schemes of NF Railway.”

Inside the exhibition stall a rail track with running train was showcased. On the walls are hoardings about the total number of operating trains and railway stations in the region. The new schemes to be launched and other information were put-up.

Bio toilet, GPS and MTRC were also exhibited, a railway staff in the stall informed. Make in India coaches are also highlighted.

On Friday KAAC CEM Tuliram Ronghang has inaugurated the stall in presence of EM and MACs and SP and DC of Karbi Anglong. CEM and other dignitaries witnessed the running train on track demonstrated by the railway staff. It was within short time the stall was put-up.
