GUWAHATI, Aug 16: Rail connectivity in flood affected portions of Bihar and West Bengal continued to be affected for the fourth day on Wednesday, Railway CPRO Pranab Jyoti Sharma informed in Guwahati on Wednesday.
Railway Board has directed all zonal railways to cancel trains travelling from various parts of the country beyond Malda town and Katihar till August 20.
A railway bridge at km 7/2-3 between Maniyan – Kuretha was damaged on Wednesday disrupting train communication between Katihar and Kumedpur. This has further hampered mobilization of materials to sites, Sharma said.
Special trains have been arranged for the stranded passengers between Guwahati to Dalkhola and back. The water is still above danger level in sections like Dalkhola-Telta – Sudhani Barsoi – Raiganj, Balurghat – Buniyadpur. In Kumedpur – Kuretha – Katihar section train running is suspended due to damage to bridge nos. MK 8(at km 166/4-5), MK 9(at km 167/5-6) & MK 11 (at km 170 / 8-9).
Altogether 77 trains have been cancelled, two trains were short terminated and a train has been diverted, he added.
