GUWAHATI, Dec 21: A three-day training programme for executives of Oil India commenced in the online mode at National Law University and Judicial Academy Assam on Tuesday. The programme was initiated with a brief inaugural session by Arati Das, general manager (HR) of Oil India.
The chief guest Justice Soumitra Saikia while emphasising the need for such training programs, placed on record his appreciation for initiatives taken by the university to conduct a capacity-building event on mines-related laws; something least explored by the legal profession. Lordship stated that mining is a sovereign function, and the mining activities must be undertaken with utmost care as the officials of the company may be held criminally liable for any lapse or negligence.
Vice-chancellor Prof VK Ahuja explained the vulnerability of mining activities for those engaged in the activities and for those living around the mining area. Prof Ahuja stated the need for compliance to statutory security standards and legal parameters. The session ended with a vote of thanks by registrar Dr Indranoshee Das, followed by the technical sessions.
