HAFLONG/ GUWAHATI, Feb 12: Glowing tributes were paid to Veer Sambhudhan Phonglo on the occasion of his 137th death anniversary at Sambhudhan Phonglo circle here on Tuesday.
The day-long programme was jointly organised by the Dimasa Student Union (DSU) and Jadikhe Naiso Hosom (JNH).
The programme started in the morning with garlanding and paying floral tribute to the statue of Veer Sambudhan Phonglo, where hundreds of people took part.
The DSU president Pramith Sengyung spoke on the life of Veer Sambudhan Phonglo and his sacrifices during freedom movement. Phonglo had to sacrifice his life during his fight against the British rulers.
Another programme was organised at Gunjung Village by Dimasa Youth Forum (DYF) where newly-elected MACs Nojit Kemprai and Nandita Gorlosa took part.
The NC Hills Autonomous Council declared the day as Martyrs’ Day and a public holiday in the entire hill district. The Union government had declared Sambudhan Phonglo a National Freedom Fighter in 2016.
In Guwahati, the members of Dimasa Students’ Community, Guwahati (DSCG) observed the death anniversary of Veer Sambudhan Phonglo with a brief programme. The progamme was presided over by DSCG president Rajat Langthasa in the presence of senior members Atul Rajiyung, Kapil Bathari, Gauhati University Unit of Dimasa Students’ Community secretary Dividita Johori and others.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from DSCG general secretary Moonson Jidung. A total of 70 students took part in the programme.
