TAWANG, July 11:Two girl students died and three others sustained injuries, two of the serious, when the hostel wall collapsed on the sleeping children at Govt Residential Upper Primary School, Namtsering village under Dudungkhar circle of Lungla sub division in the wee hours of Thursday.
The incident took place at around 3.20 am. The wall of the hostel building couldn’t resist the landslide that occurred due to incessant rains for last many days.
There were 19 girl students in the hostel and immediate rescue by the warden and other teaching staff along with nearby villagers helped other students to be rescued unhurt. The unfortunate students who lost their lives were Genden Wangmu, class six (10 year) and Rinchin Lhamu of class five (10 year).
SP Tawang, ADC Lungla along with SDMO immediately rushed to the spot, while the officials from Education dept and district administration also visited and met the family members of children and teachers of the school. The mortal remains of the two children were sent to Khandro Drowa Tsangmo district hospital Tawang for post mortem, while the injured after first aid at CHC Dudungkhar were referred for further treatment at district hospital, Tawang.
