Rohingyas get Voter ID, stay Silchar- Karimganj for one month
IMPHAL, Nov 6: Police have arrested two Rohingya women in an Imphal bound Cruiser passenger vehicle at Gularthol area in Manipur’s Jiribam district on Monday.
The arrested Rohingya women have been identified as Kushida Begum (19) and Khalida Begum (20). Both of them hail from Buthidang Rakhine in Myanmar. Police recovered fake Indian voter ID cards and other items from them.
The voter ID cards are found as Haoyarun Nessa (20), daughter of Join Uddin and Nenai Bibi (22), daughter of Akaddach Ali of Gamariya village under Ramkrishna nagar police station in Assam’s Karimganj district.
“We received a telephonic information that two women suspected to be illegal immigrants have passed Jiribam Foreigners Check post in an Imphal bound Cruiser passenger vehicle. We immediately alerted all the check posts,” Jiribam district superintendent of police M Mubi Singh told this correspondent.
“During checking at Gularthol, two women were found travelling in a Cruiser passenger vehicle bearing registration number AS-10C-2582. During interrogation they revealed that they belong to Rohingya Muslim from Myanmar. We recovered fake Indian voter ID cards and other items from them,” the SP said.
“They were coming from Silchar town and were proceeding towards Imphal. They were to be received by an unknown person at Imphal,” Singh also said.
The arrested Rohingya women have been staying in Karimganj and Cachar districts for the past one month. They entered into India from Bangladesh side via Tripura,” the SP further said.
“The identification of the traffickers are under progress,” he said. A case (No 51(11)2018) has been registered under section14A(b)of Foreigners Act at Jiribam police station.
Police have arrested 18 Rohingya Muslims from different parts of the state this year so far.
In September, the police arrested a couple who were the masterminds in the trafficking of Rohingyas from Myanmar to Manipur.
