GOLAGHAT, Feb 28: Sensations prevailed at a tea garden in Golaghat following death of sixteen labourers within a fortnight.
As per reports, labourers of Doyang Tea Estate in Golaghat have been suffering from some unknown disease which claimed sixteen lives till now. The Tea Tribes Students Union raised allegations against the health department and district administration for not taking adequate measures to identify the disease for which so many lives were lost.
The deceased have been identified as Kalia Majhi, Dilip Nayak, Belmoti Tanti, Asha Ghasi, Mohen Tasa, Anjana Tangla, Drupadi Tanti, Anil Nayak, Rukhu Bhuyan, Jola Tangla, Moli Mohan, Lakhi Tangla, Janki Routiya, Durgi Sawanr, Tisoni Sanwar.
On the other hand the tea garden authorities have stated that all these have happened due to heavy drinking of alcohol. Recently the government has deposited two thousand five hundred rupees to the bank account of each labourer. But they did not use the amount properly and spent the amount on buying alcohol. The Tea Tribes Students Union demanded immediate action in this regard.
