UG Brahma to contest for Kokrajhar and Pradip Kumar Daimary for Mangaldoi seat
KOKRAJHAR, March 14: United People’s Party –Liberal (UPPL) will field former Rajya Sabha member Urkhao Gwra Brahma from Kokrajhar and Pradip Kumar Daimary for Mangaldoi seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The party has also decided to extend its support to link-minded parties for Tezpur and Guwahati Lok Sabha seats.
This was decided by the leaders of UPPL in its policy making body (PMB) meeting held at Kajalgaon, Chirang district on Thursday. Urkhao Gwra Brahma, who is also the president of UPPL, while addressing a press conference at Dhaligaon in Chirang, said that they would win the election with large margin of votes in the poll.
Brahma was an Rajya Sabha member and former president of All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), while Daimary was former vice president of ABSU and former deputy chief of erstwhile Bodoland Autonomous Council (BAC). Brahma said the party has been fighting for equality and justice for all communities living in Bodo-dominated areas of lower Assam.
“We have been fighting for a healthy society, where there is no corruption and embezzlement of government funds meant for welfare of poor people. We are for peaceful co-existence of all section of the people here,” Brahma said.
“BPF candidate Pramila Rani Brahma and incumbent MP Naba Kumar Sarania have no issues for seeking votes from the people in this election,” he said. “The commoners are with us. They do not support Pramila or Sarania. They are fed up with their activities,” he claimed.
He also said that Sarania had failed to fulfil the hopes and aspiration of the commoners that he had promised during the last election campaign. He also appealed to the people to vote for UPPL in the upcoming elections and said only UPPL can bring peace and development to the region.
He claimed the support base of Sarania had become weak as the BJP and the Congress have decided to field their own candidates in the election. Brahma said the UPPL had no understanding with any party in the state and it would go alone. He said the people of the region wanted a change and UPPL being a pro-people party, would work for the welfare of the people. He said the party would root out corruption in BTC.
