DIPHU, Sept 19: The publicity secretary of United People’s Revolutionary Front (UPRF), John Kuki said that the protest taken out by a “few people” under the banner of Kuki Students Organisation (KSO), Kuki National Assembly (KNA), Kuki Gaonbura Association (KGBA) and Kuki Women Union (KWU) on September 18 at Semson Sing Ingti Memorial Park here, demanding a Regional Council in Karbi Anglong is absurd and illogical as it is done at the behest of distressed People’s Democratic Alliance of Kukigam (PDAK) leaders.
“There is nothing to put pressure on the government as the government is not responsible for the delay. The so-called PDAK leaders are responsible for the delay in inking the peace agreement as they refused to sign the agreement in the month of February this year,” he said in press release.
The release further said that the PDAK leaders misled the organisations which led to the division of United Kukigam Defense Army (UKDA) into two groups. The senior cadres are willing to sign the peace agreement any time they are called for.
The UPRF publicity secretary further said, “The UPRF condemned the protest as it doesn’t represent the sentiments of the Kuki common man. Moreover, few self-styled leaders are not the people’s mandate. At the same time, the UPRF will never accept the self-interest and power mongers of so-called Kuki leaders in the Kuki society who play dirty politics for their self-interest by the division of the Kuki society in Karbi Anglong. The Kuki people of Karbi Anglong will act in accordance with the healthy atmosphere of the district.”
Lastly, Kuki said the protest is nothing and was not done out of necessity but out of distress just to garner the support of the innocent Kuki public.
