Shillong, Aug 25: The ashes of former Prime Minister Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee were immersed in Umphyphi River here on Saturdaty. As part of the BJP’s ‘Asthi Kalash Yatra’ across the country, urn containing the ashes of Vajpayee was brought to Shillong on Saturday.
The urn containing the ashes was received by Meghalaya Pradesh BJP president and other state officials in Guwahati on August 23. The urn was taken in a procession from the party office here that culminated on the banks of Umshyrpi. BJP national spokesperson and In-charge of the Meghalaya wing, Nalin Kohli, was present at the procession.
Following religious hymns, Meghalaya Pradesh BJP president Shibun and others immersed the ashes at the river.
However, the absence of BJP’s main ally National Peoeple’s Party (NPP) from Asthi Kalash Yatra and all party prayer meetings were noticed by many.
