Voting from home option for elderly persons begin in Darrang

MANGALDAI, March 22: The process of house to house collection of filled postal ballots for special category voters like differently-abled, elderly persons, Covid patients, etc. began in the four assembly segments under Mangaldai district from Monday. The team of polling officials have started visiting the residences of the voters who had earlier applied to avail the benefits to cast their votes from home. District information officer Ayan Hazarika further informed this correspondent that the process would continue till March 26 next and that the voting process through postal ballots for persons in emergency services and poll personnel would be exercised from March 23 to 25 next. According to him, in the first two categories a total of 1706 voters out of whom 714 differently-abled and 992 octogenarians had applied for the vote from home option through postal ballots in the district. Dalgaon assembly recorded the maximum of 847 applicants, followed by Mangaldai with 408, Sipajhar with 340 whereas Kalaigaon recorded the minimum of 111 applicants.
