NEW DELHI, March 10: The sitting Congress MP from Autonomous District constituency, Biren Singh Engti said he is ready to contest in the Lok Sabha elections if the party gives him the ticket.
“If the party high command directs, the workers, either young or old, will have to follow the directions,” Engti said. Engti has also dashed off a letter to the high command expressing his wish to contest the polls.
This time the Congress is planning to field former HAD minister and senior congress leader Kharsing Engti from the constituency.
Once a Congress bastion, Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao have become the fortress of BJP as all the EMs and MAC of both the autonomous councils joined the BJP soon after the saffron party came to the power in Dispur in 29016 elections.
Meanwhile, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and Rajya Sabha member Ripun Bora Sunday urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to order the removal of the government hoardings across the state.
“With the announcement of dates of the general elections, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force. Secular, democratic India is confident that ECI will conduct free, fair and safe elections to ensure a smooth transition to the next government,” Bora said.
