Biren Singh Engti is a matured man, he should join BJP, says CEM
DONKAMUKAM, April 13:Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) chief executive member (CEM) Tuliram Ronghang on Saturday claimed that he would take political sanyas “if BJP candidate for Autonomous Constituency Horensing Bey is defeated in the upcoming elections”.
“I will take sanyas from politics if BJP candidate loses in the upcoming Lok Sabha election from this constituency,” Ronghang said addressing a public rally at Hamren New Market in West Karbi Anglong on Saturday.
The CEM also urged incumbent MP and Congress candidate Biren Singh Engti to join the BJP.
“Although he has done nothing for development of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, he should thank the people for getting opportunity to serve 35 years as an MP,” he said.
“He is well matured now and I request him also to join BJP,” the CEM also said.
“There is no question of defeat of BJP in this constituency. Both the Autonomous Councils – Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao and 5 MLAs, nine town committees are at our hand,” Ronghang said.
“We proposed his (Horensing) name to high command because he has the capacity to work for the people who spearheaded a movement for many years for the cause of land and its people,” Ronghang said.
“Now time has come for all the citizens to stand behind him. I appeal to all section of the people of East and West districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao to support him in the election,” he said.
In his address, BJP candidate Bey said, “Autonomous State issue is in my blood, that is why I led the armed struggle, for many years under the banner of UPDS and later signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government.”
“We have not indulged any hatred towards any community or religion. We had formed People’s Alliance for Peace Agreement (PAPA), which enjoyed the support of 54 tribal and non-tribal organisations of the two hill districts.” Bey said.
Criticizing ASDC candidate Holiram Terang, Bey said, “Holiram Terang had not raised a single question in the assembly when he was an MLA and that is why he was awarded as the best MLA.”
The meeting was attended by MLA Dr Mansing Rongpi, EMs Mongolsing Timung and Rupsing Teron.
In the meeting, more than three hundred opposition supporters under the leadership of Rajen Rongphar joined the BJP.
