DIPHU, Nov 11: Newly-appointed Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (KADCC) president and former HAD minister Khorsing Engti stressed on winning the people’s trust to win elections in Karbi Anglong.
Engti was addressing a felicitation programme at DCC office here on Monday.
“During the 12 years of ASDC rule, we don’t have elected members of our own. But in 2001 we came back to the power. We will not remain like this and we will retain power. But we should be united and work together in reviving the party,” Engti said.
“As I am appointed as the president of KADCC, I have responsibility towards the party now. It is my responsibility to raise the party from zero and to do that the cooperation of party members and workers is needed,” he said.
On the party’s defeat in last Lok Sabha elections in No. 3 Diphu Autonomous (ST) Parliamentary constituency, the former minister said losing and winning is part of elections and do not hold anyone responsibility for it. He also said party leaders will sit down for discussion to find out various possibilities to revive the party.
Engti was three time Congress MLA and two time HAD minister from 2006 to 2016. He was also MAC in 1984, EM in 1985 and CEM from 2002 t0 2006.
Echoing a similar tune newly-appointed KADCC working president Ashok Teron stressed on the need of the revival of the party from the grass root level.
APCC secretary and in-charge of Karbi Anglong, Ramananda Chandra Baruah, West Karbi Anglong District Congress Committee (WKADCC) president Sarthe Kramsa, Karbi Anglong District Mahila Congress president Kasang Terangpi and senior leaders of the party were present at the programme.
