The Best Karbipi award was given to AFS Catherine Teronpi
DIPHU, Dec 10: A Karbi textbook writer and social worker Lunse Timung of Lorulangso, Diphu was awarded the Best Karbipo award for 2018, while a Senior Finance and Accounts officer, AFS, Catherine Teronpi of Rongmongve, Diphu was awarded the Best Karbipi award for 2018 by Karbi Riso Adorbar (KRA), Karbi Students Association (KSA) and Karbi So-arlo Amei (KARSA), in an award giving ceremony at the office of KRA here on Friday.
The award was constituted in 2003 jointly by KRA, KSA and KARSA to give recognition among the Karbi men and women.
The recipient of Best Karbipo, Lunse Timung was presented with a sash, Karbi jacket, a citation and gifts. While the recipient of Best Karbipi, Catherine Teronpi, is not keeping well, her husband Borsing Hanse has received the award. The award includes a sash, a Karbi shawl, a citation and a gift.
The recipient of Best Karbipo, Timung is mostly known for writing Karbi textbooks for Karbi medium schools and as Karbi subject in schools published by Karbi Language Development Board of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).
Among the textbooks he had written were Lammet Pangrum-I and II, Lam Chili guide book –I and II in Assamese, Teacher’s hand book in English and Mukak. Timung has also written other books including Karbi Aron Ajutang (Karbi Customary Law) in Karbi, English and Assamese, Karbi Ovelir, Hemphu Alammet, Choti Choter, Rahep Lammarjong –I and II and others. Altogether he has written 45 books both Karbi textbooks and literary works.
Timung was an LP School teacher at Chokihola LP School who later joined as assistant inspector of Schools. In 1978 he resigned from his job to contest election. He was elected for two consecutive terms from 1978 to 1986 as Member of District Council (MDC) of Karbi Anglong District Council. He was executive member in both the terms.
Timung was also an active member in KSA, became the president of KRA and Karbi Cultural Society and general secretary in Karbi Adorbar. He was also president of Karbi Lammet Amei, convenor of Karbi Language and Culture Training Centre, chairman of Karbi Textbooks Preparation Committee and convenor of Karbi Customary Law Committee.
Receiving the award Timung asked the upcoming generation for promotion and development of Karbi language, culture and tradition. He appreciated the organisers for the award.
On the other hand, the recipient of Best Karbipi Catherine Teronpi began her government job as an LDA in PHE department. In 2003 she was selected for Assam Finance Service (AFC) and was appointed as Finance & Account officer on August 25, 2003.
As Finance & Account officer she was posted at Bokajan Sub-Treasury Office, Diphu and Kokrajhar Treasury Office. She was chief accounts officer at Golaghat Treasury Office and was Senior Finance and Accounts officer at Diphu.
Executive member (EM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Kache Rongpipi attending the ceremony said the educated Karbi youths should excel in government jobs and in other fields as well.
President of KRA, Biman Kro said the Best Karbipo and Best Karbipi award for 2018 was delayed for two years due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The function was attended by member of Autonomous Council (MAC), Seema Ronghangpi, chairman of Social Welfare Board, Kadom Terangpi, president of KANCHASDCOM, Ajit Timung and general secretary, Sing Timung, president of KLA, Sukursing Rongpi and general secretary, Liladar Teron, general secretary of KARSA, Bina Terangpi, general secretary of KSA, Budha Terang, general secretary of KRA, Gautam Rongpi and president of KRA, Mongdol Sing Bey.
