Guwahati, June 21: “Yoga is for an all round development which connects your body with the soul and therefore I believe everybody should practice yoga to maintain a healthy and a disease free life,” said Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi while participating at the fourth International Day of Yoga celebrated at Raj Bhavan on Thursday morning.
The Governor while addressing the participants of the Yoga programme said, “Yoga is an invaluable gift of India’s ancient tradition to the global world. It embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfillment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being.”
The first lady of Assam Prem Mukhi, noted film artistes Zerifa Wahid, Pranjal Saikia, Poornima Saikia and Mr. Universe Mahadeb Deka also participated in the yoga celebrations. Members from Marwari Yuva Manch, Terapanth Mahila Mandal, Byatikram MASDO, Confederation of Indian Industries, students of Sports Academy, Directorate of Sports and all other officers and employees and their family members of Raj Bhavan participated in the yoga camp. The celebrations started at 6 am and continued till 8 am.
Meanwhile, the party workers of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assam Pradesh celebrated the fourth International Yoga Day at each and every district of the state with full enthusiasm.
The 4th International Day of Yoga was observed in Golaghat district on Thursday with various programmes. The day was centrally observed by the district administration at a programme held at the Cricket Indoor Stadium of the Golaghat District Sports Association (GDSA) here in association with AYUSH and Patanjali Yoga Samiti.
A yoga competition was also held among the public at the venue and prizes distributed among the winners. A cultural programme to mark the occasion was also held at Golaghat District Jail. Similar programmes were also held at the sub-divisional, block and gaon panchayat level across the district.
Yoga Day celebration saw huge participation of people at various places in Kokrajhar district. The Kokrajhar district administration organised the day at KDSA indoor stadium in association with Patanjali Yog Samiti. The unit of Red Horns Division of Indian army celebrated the day at Patgaon ground in Kokrajhar.
Along with rest of the World, the 4th International Yoga day was celebrated in Hojai on Thursday under the aegis of Hojai district administration at Hojai Indoor Stadium Campus.
At around 6:45 am, the programme began with lighting the lamp. Hojai MLA Shiladitya Deb along with Deputy Commissioner of Hojai District Manvendra Pratap Singh, IAS, Superintendent of Police Ankur Jain, IPS and officials from all the department’s were present on this occasion.
Patanjali Yog Samiti, Namrup in collaboration with Namrup Nagarsamiti, Namrup BVFCL management and CISF BVFCL unit celebrated International Yoga Day on Thursday. The programme was inaugurated by BVFCL Chief Managing Director (CMD) Shyam Deo Singh by lighting the lamp at BVFCL Gandhi Maidan Indoor Stadium.
Hailakandi district celebrated the 4th International Day of Yoga in a befitting manner. Hundreds of school children, dignitaries and enthusiasts turned up at the Central function in the lawns of Deputy Commissioner’s office in the wee hours to celebrate the Yoga Day on Thursday.
600 personnel of 1st Battalion NDRF celebrated 4th International Yoga Day at different team/company locations i.e, Kailashahar & Agartala (Tripura), Aizawl (Mizoram), Silchar (Cachar), Patgaon, Mirza, Changsari, Sonitpur, Bongaigaon, Barpeta Assam & IWT Base Uzan Bazar Guwahati with great enthusiasm on Thursday.
Troops of Guwahati Frontier of Border Security Force observed the 4th International Yoga Day on Thursday. 130 BSF personnel also participated in Combined Yoga programme of CAPFs (Central Armed Police Forces) organised at Sonaram High School, Bhoralumukh, Guwahati on Thursday from 7 am onwards.
Similar programmes were also organised in Sector HQrs of Dhubri, Coochbehar and Falakata, all Battalion HQrsand BOPs under command of Guwahati Frontier. The aim of observing International Yoga Day upto the BOP level was to spread the message of keeping healthy heart and mind amongst the border population with zero cost expense.
