GUWAHATI, June 25: Assam sprinter Hima Das on Monday said that she would try her best to make a good performance in the forthcoming Inter State Senior Athletics championship.
It will be the first occasion when Hima will compete in a major athletics competition in her home soil.
Talking to the media person here on Monday the athlete said, “I am working hard to improve my performance in the international circuit. I have just returned from Poland where we went for month long training and later also took part in a couple of competitions. I am feeling good. I am fully prepared for Inter State Athletics competition.”
Hima extended support to her coach Nipon Das against whom an allegation of molestation was leveled by an athlete recently. “I know Nipon sir very well. He can’t do any such act. I’ve already requested sir to file a defamation suit against the person who leveled such an allegation against him.”
Meanwhile, the Assam Athletics’ Association embroiled itself into an unnecessary controversy as the association has failed to release officially the names of Assam contingent for the Inter State Competition till on Monday. When the point was raised to the officials of the association this morning they said that the names will be released by this evening. The names, however, haven’t been released as yet. It is first such incident – not naming the squad on the State – in an event hosted by the State.
