NEW DELHI, Nov 18: Ravi Kumar faltered in the final of the 57 kg category in the 2018 Under-23 World Men’s Freestyle Championships at Bucharest (Romania), settling for a silver medal on Saturday night.

In the second period, the Japanese gained upper hand very early and by locking a cradle pinned the Indian to the mat to get the verdict in his favour and the gold.

Earlier, Ravi had beat Jahongirmirza of Uzbekistan, winning on points (10-8), in what was a close semifinals. In the previous round, Ukraine’s Taras Markovych had become his victim as the Indian won 12-4. He had received a bye in the qualification round and defeated Romania’s Marian Razvan 7-5 to earn his quarterfinal berth.
