Warner ton gives Australia slight advantage

DHAKA, Sept 6 (AGENCIES): Bad light brought a premature end to a day on Wednesday which mimicked the tone of the series – scuffle for domination. Australia starting the day at 225/2 and failed to grab a substantial stranglehold of the game as three-fers from Mehidy Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman pegged them back. The Australians ended the rain-curtailed day at 377/9, leading Bangladesh by 72 runs.

The rain gods after an absence of two days decided to make their presence felt. But a fantastic drainage system coupled with some tirelessly efficient groundsmen ensured the ground at Chittagong was ready for action in almost no time after the heavens cleared up. An entire session had been lost but a business of 67 overs was decided upon.

And in a matter of 40 minutes the home team had a huge reason to cheer. David Warner on 99 was eager for a single on the on-side but interestingly Peter Handscomb fell to the curiosity of it. He backed off too far at the bowler’s end on a non-existent run and Shakib-Al-Hasan threw the sticks down from the mid-wicket region. Warner though refused to budge and continued his dour display of batting. He took 16 balls to caress one through the covers and notch up his 20th test ton. His slowest by a distance. And his second in succession.
