JORHAT, Oct 18: Oil India Ltd (OIL) has donated Rs 9 lakh for construction of a modern toilet at the central office of Asom Sattra Mahasabha at Rajabari here, the foundation of which was laid on Friday.
The foundation was laid by OIL general manager Sandip Goswami at a function here in the presence of office bearers of the Mahasabha on Friday.
Of Rs 9 lakh, the OIL has already released Rs 4 lakh for preliminary works of the project.
Goswami also kicked off a plantation drive on the occasion.
In his brief address, Goswami elaborated about various schemes and projects taken up by Oil under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. He also mentioned about many projects to be taken by the oil major for welfare of the society under CSR programme.
The meeting was presided over by ASM vice president and satradhikar of Sri Sri Mayamara Puranimati Sattra Bhavananda Goswami. ASM principal secretary Kusum Kumar Mahanta was also present in the meeting as distinguished guest.
The welcome address was given by ASM Central East Zone secretary Pankaj Saikia while vote of thanks was offered by Jorhat District Sattra Mahasabha secretary Munu Baruah.
The ASM is a registered socio-cultural organisation that serves as the umbrella organisation for the Sattra of Assam which aims at preserving and propagating the religious and socio-cultural teachings of Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeva. Since its inception in 1915, as Santa Sanmilani, Sattra Sangha in 1945 and Sattra Mahasabha in 1990, the organisation has been ardently engaged in the development and spread of Sattriya Sanskriti (Culture).
