DIPHU, Oct 12: The Zonal Karbi Youth Festival (KYF) organised by Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) will get underway from October 16 in 22 zones of Karbi Anglong. The festival will conclude on October 19.
The KCS president Chandra Sing Kro informed The Hills Times that like every year the Zonal KYF will be organised in every zones. Apart from Umrongso, Dumra and Biswanath Chariali, the 22 zones will organise the Zonal KYF, he said.
Kro mentioned financial constraints in organising the Zonal KYF and said, “There is financial constraints in organising the Zonal KYF, but the festival will be held. KCS central committee has already appointed its members as observers for various Zones for the Zonal KYF.”
Kro also urged everyone cutting across party lines and religious differences to extend their cooperation in making the Zonal KYF successful.
“For the sake of preserving and promoting our culture and tradition every one keeping aside political differences should come forward to extend support in making Zonal KYF a grand success,” Kro urged.
The preparations are on war footing for the 26th Langpher KYF at Bakaliaghat Sports Association playground. The four-day ethnic festival will kick start from October 16.
The main pandal, stage and camp for cultural troops are near completion. More than fourteen cultural troupes will participate in the events. The events include folk dance competition, traditional games, concerts, besides display of traditional Karbi dresses and sale, food and others. The event is likely to attract a lot of people.
Bakalia Zone KCS working president Dhonsing Terang appealed to the people for peaceful celebration and wholehearted participation in the festivities.
The Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) EM for higher education, Jagatsing Engti visited Sarupathar to review the preparation works for 26th Zonal Karbi Youth Festival of Nihang Donsuri Zone at Japralangso on Friday.
Engti inspected the stage and artistes camps at the venue and asked the reception committee to complete the preparation on time. Engti informed that much of the preparations are over and definitely it will be complete before the start of the festival.
EM Engti said it is the responsibility of every individual when it comes to preserving and promoting one’s own culture and sought cooperation in making the Zonal KYF a grand success. He informed a total of 16 KCS Unit of Nihang Donsuri Zone will be participating in the festival.
